2-2 At full time, 4-2 Milton United win on penalties

Definitely not a game for the footballing purist. We went into Saturday's Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup game against FC Stratford, having already played them in the league 12 days ago. The amount of cup games we are having is very strange. Being in such good form in the league, it's there where we ideally want to focus on. That being said we currently have a 100% record at home and I want my team to win every game of football. However this afternoons performance very nearly put a dent in our home form, because we literally didn't show up. We looked unfit, unbothered and it was probably the worst performance of our season. Granted we changed the team around and a few players had their chance to earn their place. Overall it was not an acceptable performance for where we want to be. We were also lucky that Stratford had a few missing. The 2 goals we did score were very well worked and well taken. However it emphasised our frustration, because on the two occasions we decided to play, we scored.
On a positive note and as I’ll always say, if we can play that bad and grind out a win, then it’s a sign of a good team.
We are happy to quickly move on and focus on our Berks & Bucks Senior County Cup game against Sandhurst Town FC on Wednesday night. A good team who currently sit second in their respective league. Although they did lose on Saturday against Berks County, who we beat away in the last round of the Senior Cup.
We have had no training this week, so the boys will have a good rest and can look forward to getting back to playing football on Wednesday. We've lost Daniel West to a slight knock which comes at a bad time, so once again our depth in the squad will play it's part.
On a very positive note we picked up the Hellenic League Team of the Month award for September. The boys, in my opinion, deserved it for August too. The loss on the 29th to league favourites Pershore, meant they deservedly pipped us to the post. It’s a great award to get for the club and personally I’d like to thank my team, management staff and all of the Milton United family.
It’s early doors and we look to push on again Wednesday and keep our unbeaten home run going.
