We arrived to this game, with a welcome break from the league after a good start. It was a perfect opportunity to rest some players and give other players the opportunity to prove themselves. We then added into that a few injuries, going into the game we had a total of 8 changes which as expected changed the dynamic of the team. We started very poorly and we’re on the back foot from the beginning. We found ourselves 1-0 down after overplaying from the back. We got back in the game from a Mikey penalty. In the second half, we started to get into the game and became more competitive on and off the ball. With a few changes we become more relaxed and composed on the ball, we played in there half and won more of our individual battles. The game slowly died out and we found ourselves in our second penalty shootout. After some quality penalties, we came out winners and play Sandhurst Town.
Looking back, as frustrating as the game was. The boys were class dealing with 8 changes and still pushing through. Some players getting their first 90 mins of the season. Going forward we need to note that we can't always play football the way we like and we need to sometimes play ugly and grind out results in the winter months.
We look forward to inviting Stratford to Milton on Saturday. UTM
