Milton United First Team have had another busy month.

Hello all it's me again.. since the last months write up, Milton United First Team have had another busy month.
It began with a local derby against Abingdon United, under the lights on a Friday night. Unexpectedly I found myself dusting off the gloves and featuring in the game, in front of over 350 supporters. Thankfully for myself and the team I kept a clean sheet and we won! The boys were a different class and to bounce back from losing to Pershore and beating our local rivals was just the way we wanted to start September.
This month has been very cup-based, with matches being played in three different competitions. The first two provided the ideal opportunity to give certain players a deserved rest, whilst also experimenting with different shapes and formations. After beating Berks County in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup on penalties, we had a break from football, when we joined the nation in a period of morning, after the passing of our late Queen Elizabeth II. When football resumed, we went on to beat Cheltenham Saracens in the floodlit cup, which was great as it's a cup we want to do well in as a club and team. To also beat a team in the same league as us is always a bonus.
The biggest talking point of the month is last weekend's win in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Vase. Personally, I don't think anything I can say will give the day justice. To play a team a step higher than us, who are arguably favourites to win their league and play the way we did is unbelievable. It is a memory I'll remember for a very long time. The game had everything and after being 1-0 up for so long and then to concede with 30 seconds left to go and miss out on a clean sheet was devastating. However, the lads showed their grit and after being 2-0 down in the penalty shootout, we went on to win it. A special shout out must go to Josh Grant, who not only stepped up at the last minute and played in goal, but his penalty saves put us through. Please return any of our match balls you may find around the housing estate, as they will be from our penalties, I do apologise! As far as league action goes the month has been quite quiet. However, wins against Newent Town and FC Stratford, see us finishing September sitting at the top of the league by 2 points.
A very good month with six wins from six, top of the league, still in all cup competitions and Louis Joyce and Freddie Kennedy the top two goal scorers in Hellenic League One.
As to be expected, the scouts have been out and some of our players have attracted interest from other clubs. As a manager and coach, I love it, as it shows the lads have been doing everything right and are getting noticed. I will always push my players to play as high as they can, and I'll always support them to achieve their goals. We have a great vibe around the club, the women's team are in the FA cup, the Reserves are off to a good start, and we have good people coming in behind the scenes. It's a great time to come and support your local club and we welcome you all to come along.
It's a dream start for the club and the team, and a dream start for me. We have a long way to go and the next three months, as we all know are the tough ones and will be crucial for our season. We remain with our feet firmly on the ground and look to push on again next month, starting with another tough game against FC Stratford in the Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup.
A special thank you to the players for their hard work, my management team, the Chairman and all the background staff who have welcomed me in and supported us as a first team in every way.
